Questions workers ask

Can a master license let me earn as my own electrical contractor?▾
Yes, if the business also holds a DPOR contractor license. The Board for Contractors requires an electrical (ELE) firm to name a qualified individual with a master electrician license who works full time for the firm or belongs to its management.
Do state-funded electrical jobs pay prevailing wage?▾
Yes, if the public works contract is over $250,000 and paid at least partly with state funds, or a locality's prevailing wage ordinance covers it. The Commissioner of Labor and Industry sets electrician rates, which contractors must post at the site.
Where can I raise an unpaid overtime issue?▾
Virginia DOLI accepts wage complaints and handles overtime enforcement beginning July 1, 2026. Keep time records, pay statements and instructions about required work. Covered nonexempt employees receive overtime after 40 workweek hours.
