Questions workers ask

Will a registered electrical apprenticeship raise my pay as I progress?▾
Yes. Virginia Works requires every registered apprenticeship standard to include a progressively increasing schedule of wages. Ask the sponsor for that schedule and whether related classroom instruction hours are paid.
Must I pay for my own insulating gloves?▾
No. VOSH adopts the federal construction rule requiring employers to pay for required protective equipment, including electrical protective gloves. Exceptions include ordinary safety-toe footwear and prescription safety eyewear that you may wear off the job.
How should I compare offers with different schedules?▾
Start with the hourly range, then discuss expected paid hours, overtime, benefits and travel arrangements. Under Virginia overtime law, enforced by DOLI, covered nonexempt employees earn overtime after 40 hours in a workweek. Keep preparation and cleanup time in your records when comparing actual earnings.
