Questions workers ask

Is waiting for a machine repair automatically unpaid?▾
No. Remaining on duty and available while equipment is repaired can count as working time. Being genuinely released from duty is different. Record instructions and restrictions on leaving; the breakdown alone does not establish whether you are off duty.
Can overtime use only my cheaper machine rate?▾
Not simply because you operate different machines. Covered, nonexempt hours for the same employer generally combine. Multiple rates commonly require a weighted regular rate, subject to permitted alternatives. Record each assignment's hours and agreed rate.
Does a day rate remove an operator's overtime rights?▾
No. A day rate is a payment method, not an automatic exemption. Ask how recorded hours and additional payments enter the calculation before comparing a flat daily offer with hourly employment.
